To Rescue Or Not

October 30, 2012

Like most Americans I have watched what is happening in New York. I am always awed by the bravery of the fire and police department. How many of us would willing place our own lives on the line for someone else? Someone we don’t even know.

Maybe most of you nodded you would. Great, now let’s take it to the next step. Your setting in a boat. The boat is floating in a small pond full of alligators. The guy setting next to you decides to jump out among the alligators. His reasoning is that it looks fun.

After hitting the water several of the huge reptiles start swimming in his direction. The man suddenly screams. I don’t want to die, help me.

Just for the sake of argument the only way you can save him is to dive in. Most likely causing your on death. Would you do it?

Not me. If he was stupid enough to dive in he gets what he wants.

Now with that said. Why does some idiot that climbs a mountain just for the fun of it deserves to have a helicopter sent to his rescue endangering a whole team of men.

If you have some sorta answer that explains why this jerk deserves saving, great.

My next question is should he be charged the cost of the rescue or charged with manslaughter if someone else dies trying to save the idiot.

If someone tells you a hurricane is coming and you see it on TV and still refuse to move out you should not get any help. If the rescuers feel pity on you. The least should happen is you are responsible for the cost in expenses and money. Also it should be strictly on a volunteer basis who rescues you.

The rescue personal may think their services are in a greater need where someone else is in harm’s way. Someone that didn’t knowingly place their self in such a position.

NEWS JUNKIES UNITE

May 9, 2011

If they had meeting for such things I would have to stand up and say.

“Hello, my name is Gary, and I am a News Junkie.”

I am sure we don’t have group meetings yet because Dr. Phil hasn’t thought up a proper name for us yet.

Thank goodness for the small things in life.

One thing as a news junkie I have noticed. Nothing seems to happen much on the weekend. Yes, I know storms and floods and the such don’t take the weekend off. The Mississippi flooding as I write speaks to that.

No, what I am talking about is man-made news. The last time any thing really world shaking happen on a weekend that I am aware of was the attack on Pearl Harbor. If you think about it. That was a brilliant move by the Japanese. I didn’t say I liked it. I simply think they were smart to do it on a Sunday.

There is not much happening on the weekends because everyone who is anybody is off work. That only leaves a skeleton crew back at the office to start wars and such. These few guys and girls aren’t into any thing that takes a lot of time and energy. They are mad that they had to work instead of cooking out or going swimming with their friends.

Thank for a second about Pearl Harbor. All the big shots were either in church, nursing a hang over or simply sleeping late. Then there was that one Top Sargent laying on the beach with his CO’s wife. There was no one to make an instant decision. The private, the Buck Sargent and the first Lt. that were the only ones on duty. They certainly wasn’t going to start pushing buttons. I don’t blame them either. How would you like it to go down in history that you pvt. Such and Such screwed the whole war effort up.

You are most likely wondering were all this is going. After thinking about this for the last fifteen minutes. I have decided we the people of the world should give all the decision makers a thirty-day paid vacation.

We would save billions a day and Death for the most part could truly take a holiday.

Just something to think about this Monday morning.

HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ??????

February 22, 2011

I love the news. I watch it at 6:00 PM when I am at home and then again at 10:00. I normally eat a bagel and have a cup of tea with Robin and George each morning. The first thing I do is read the Drudge when I get to work. I don’t know but I may be addicted to news.

Now my question for myself as well as you my wonderful readers. Do I need to know all this?

Is it necessary for me to see a pool of blood from a dead gang member and then see his mother screaming about her baby before going to bed at night.

Does it do me any good to know that the price of oil is going through the roof. After all I will find out on my own at the pump within a few days. By knowing before then I simply add a few more days to the frustration.

Does it help me to know that the world is a cruel place were children and animals are beaten molested and killed daily. Does it help that I hear about these horrid detail everyday by some person on TV or read about it on the computer.

As for as that goes do I need to know that a storm just set down one block from my house but is now going the other direction.

What about that the snow that stopped ten miles from my house and we aren’t going to get a flake.

Finally, do I really need to know that Michele Obama had spare ribs the other day.

In all honesty, I love fat and don’t always do everything I advice other people to do either.

The bottom line, does the news do us more good or more harm.

It does not make any difference for me. I am addicted and I don’t think I can kick the habit.

Bomb Shelters

June 3, 2009

With North Korea flexing their muscles, it reminds me of days gone by.

I remember as a child having bomb drills.

We would get under our desk and set quietly until the teacher announced the drill was over.

Thinking back,  that was rather unfair asking a kid to be quite right before he or she is to blown up. I mean after all you want have another chance to run in the hall or any thing.

There was never a bomb thank goodness. After a few years, the cold war began to thaw and people forgot about those years filled with terror.

Tornadoes blow through this state on regular bases. They often destroy property and kill people. Still it is a rare thing to see storm shelter. In the early sixties, there were bomb shelters everywhere. Some people even had them in their back yard.

Funny how you can adjust to almost any thing. Back then, one country besides us had the bomb and we were scared to death. Now half the nut cases that rule countries have one and nobody seems concerned.

I guess getting nuked now lands somewhere on the list around being blown away by a storm.

I wonder if any one still has any of that canned water left.

Take care and I hope you are all still around to read this tomorrow.
